Personal Fell in love with William Ramsay at the Academy, and formed a very strong bond over the coming years. Eventually they were married in front of their shipmates on SD 70601, with her already expecting their first child. The event involved. Their honeymoon was shortened by an urgent call which led them to be assigned to a secret mission, in which the relationship showed its first signs of stress. Christopher was born on SD 80409 and helped to draw attention away from the flagging relationship for a while. Eventually though, as all good things must come to an end, she sought out someone else to make her feel wanted. The affair had devastating repercussions on her marriage and her career hit the rocks when William was mysteriously killed in the line of duty. At the time, she became an alcoholic and subsequently required therapy, which became effective shortly after she finally got her break with an assignment as Tac/CSO on the USS Apollo. This proved to be the foundation of the best years of her career, arranged in secret by one Admiral Clark, who gave her a stern lecture about alcoholism, before granting a reference that would secure the position. Though Caroline got on well with her new therapist at first, giving up alcohol was hellish to do, especially since it was an entrenched and familiar way to let go of her responsibility. Eventually she came to find other ways of unwinding, though practising kata forms has become a staple of her weekly regimen. She also formed a close bond with Wilma, her therapist, and the two had a tempestuous two weeks as a couple shortly before Wilma's assignment ended. Despite Caroline's jump start, it has been hard work to get to where she is today, and although her months of studying warfare and the countless away missions have not been in vain, there have been costs. For while most missions go according to plan, just a few involve a brush with death. It is a risk that you accept as part of serving with the fleet, but losing people has become harder for Caroline. Where previously she wouldn't hesitate to shoot her way out of a bad situation, doubt now lingers with every make-or-break decision. This is clearly illustrated by a mission which eerily mirrors one undertaken by her father some years previously. She suffered greatly at the hands of her Romulan captors before turning the tables on them, and lost several of her team. Every time she wears full dress uniform she omits her Bronze Star whenever it will not be noticed, because in her eyes she doesn't deserve it. Caroline found love again and married Paul Trueman on SD 130831, unaware of his involvement with the Red Circle until after her assignment to the CONSTELLATION. Her time serving on one of Starfleet's heavy cruisers has been just as formative as her assignment to the Apollo. She made some new friends, and caught up with a couple of old ones. Things started to look strained when she renewed her earlier relationship with Wilma, Paul's allegiances become known as part of a Security investigation, and her dreams started to trouble her again. The stress led to her being removed from duty on medical grounds, and although she resumed light duty after showing improvement, she eventually had too many problems to juggle and requested some leave to sort them out. She also got round to divorcing her husband Paul, on SD 150930. She spent this time well, working on her relationship with Wilma and children at a new home on Earth and resolving various issues to some degree of satisfaction. However, feeling that she was being remiss in continuing in a position that did not appeal to her as much as a deep-space assignment would, she decided to resign and pursue a family life to the fullest. At least, until out of the blue an offer to rejoin the CONSTELLATION presented itself. Rather than dismiss it out of hand, Caroline decided after consulting with the family that she should go. However since she didn't want to uproot them all, and because the mission was potentially dangerous, they would stay on Earth until she got back. During that mission, she spent a lot of time shipside, but like the rest of her career, it was a learning experience. She also built new bridges in some of her friendships, something which has never been particularly easy. However, she soon returned home to have baby Melissa (SD 170201) and finally get round to joining Wilma in a quiet civil union with some friends and family present on SD 170223. Caroline has spent the past year on assignment to the AKAGI with only Wilma and Melissa present, having made arrangements with her sister Helen to take care of her grown-up children in the meantime. Quite why this has come about is not generally known. Special abilities Excels in both armed and unarmed combat. Particularly proficient with the Klingon bat'leth, and has some passing knowledge of Klingon customs and rituals. Hates Intensely distrusts Romulans for an incident involving her father which left him paralysed from the waist down. The damage was eventually reversed, allowing him to walk his daughter up the aisle at her wedding. On an away mission of her own, this racial hatred was reinforced when her team was ambushed. Interests Very much a keep-fit fanatic since giving up alcohol, Caroline tends toward a fairly hard regime of exerting activities. What helps her to unwind the most though, are meditation and practising kata forms. Her reading material is mostly science updates, though she also has a subscription for the monthly-issue Wormhole Xtreme comic series. Traditions There is a long line of combat and martial arts experts in the McMirren family; the current sensai is Caroline's uncle, Alistair McMirren. Caroline initially had a hard choice between staying at home to teach martial arts, or join StarFleet. Her sister Helen has now taken up the role she could have had then. To some this may not seem like a big deal, but in a family like Caroline's going against the grain doesn't lend itself well to continuing the tradition. She has finally mended her fences somewhat with family and home; although her parents declined to attend her union with Wilma, they have visited her home a few times. Caroline is also pretty much atheist, although occasionally it is clear that she wasn't always this way. APPEARANCE Fair complexion long light-brown hair tied in a ponytail, emerald green eyes. Current assignment: Chief Security Officer, USS AKAGI Current rank: Commander (O-5) Service number: SC-0620-0313 Career options During her Academy years, Caroline did well in both of her majors. She also showed enthusiasm for additional studies, particularly advanced first-aid, even though her instructor suspected she signed up to spend time with an unsuspecting crush. After getting a career break, she began to have ambitions of future command and after consulting her her commanding officer, she undertook additional training in operations, to broaden her range of skills. This involved a stint at command school. Having had years of distinguished service since then aboard the CONSTELLATION and now the AKAGI, she has good prospects; however to Caroline any deep-space assignment is a worthwhile one. REFERENCES "Caroline McMirren is a vastly-overlooked officer who deserves an immediate posting as Chief Security Officer on a ship of the line." -- Admiral Christine Clark (now retired), Starfleet Diplomacy Corps, SD 91217 "In light of true heroism and valor in difficult circumstances, I am pleased to recommend Caroline McMirren for the Bronze Star." -- Captain Ronald Jameson, CO USS Apollo, SD 111101 "Lt. Trueman is progressing well in her Operations training. I believe she could in future do well in a command of her own or, just as an example, Strategic Operations. But for now, we'll have to see how she works out in her new role as Ops Manager." -- Captain Luke Ivanov, CO USS Apollo, SD 131020
